Summer in Cuba
This is the latest lifestyle shoot I worked on a couple of months ago, and it's out now. We came up with the concept of a couple hanging out in a run-down Havana hotel room on a hot Summer day based mainly on the colours and patterns from the clothes our client bought overseas to match the shoes for next season.
Client: Pulp Shoes
Set: The very talented Leo at Staging Dimensions
Photographer: Paul Giggle
Retouching: David Walden
Hair & Makeup: Tania Travers
Art Direction, props: moi
Talent: Alex F and Matt J from Dally's Models

Milestones
It's my nan's 85th birthday in October and we're very happy that we'll be able to take some holidays to fly to Germany join her in the celebrations. So, more travel posts coming up :)
I designed a simple invitation for her this week - inspired by a broach she made me probably about 2 decades ago (she's into her craft). I used a classic serif typeface in Mrs Eaves (including some ligatures), but kept it modern and clean, with a feminine feel. Today I sourced some cream pinstriped card with matching envelopes; have now finished printing and slicing, and punched the corners round.

Work: Brown paper as a styling device
A couple of weeks ago I had to pull together a shoot in less than a day - the client had decided last minute that he wanted some groups shot for a last-minute project. No time for props, or even doing some test shots myself to figure out layout. Luckily we have heaps of brown paper at work, and I'd already organised photography for the next day for another project.
Mindi Cooke and I have worked together on quite a few still life shoots in the past 2 years so we have an easy rapport which was invaluable in putting this shoot together, flying by the seats of our pants. We used natural light and I think we pulled it together really well.

Winter at Pulp
In January we shot the campaign for our other in-house brand, Pulp. It was all the same crew, except for the retouching, which was done by ColourChiefs this time, and we also had a male model, Matt Johnson from Dally's.
Winter at Pulp Noir
I can finally share our latest seasonal images that we shot back in December.
My job in this was the art direction. Our wonderful model Alexandra was from Dallys, and the campaign was shot by Paul Giggle. Hair & make-up by Tania Travers. We shot in studio and all backgrounds were comped in by the wonderfully talented retoucher Justin Overell who is amazing, and whose work I love love love!
I am particularly happy with the shoe close-ups, as I wasn't quite sure if they was going to work as I envisioned but they came together easily on the day. To check out some shoes go to www.pulpshoes.com

Winter shoot for Pulp Noir
Spent all day yesterday in studio to work on the lifestyle shoot for Pulp Noir for Winter 2011. A tiny, crappy-quality sneak peek here. Will upload the final images when they're released, about mid-Feb.

Maison Des Papillons - a quick e-invite
A little freelance thing I did for a friend a few weeks ago; 3 fashion/accessories labels put on a show at Oriel Gallery in Ascot. Sadly I couldn't go to the show as I had our grading on the same day.

Work work work
Apologies for the lack of posts last week - I was (and still am) pretty flat out with the catalogue, and spent two full days shooting product with our wonderful photographer Mindi. I'm really happy with how this catalogue is turning out; it's a lot cleaner than previous ones, and the photos look great. A small taste:

I am stuck knee-deep in shoes!
I'm working on the next catalogue at the moment, so have been quite busy. I thought I should share my crazy work space at the moment.

On location
Was away for our two seasonal shoots Tuesday and Wednesday. On Tuesday we shot in a quarry near Burleigh Heads - unfortunately I forgot to take photos that day, but here are some happy snaps (on my camera phone) from our Wednesday shoot at a luxurious holiday home in the Byron Bay hinterland. I'll post happy snaps with talent once the images are released, but here is the location:

Work: Styling
This is a shot I was working on before I left for my holidays. It's finally out in the world, so now I can show you guys. I'm really happy with how this turned out; I think it has the right balance of mood and showing off the shoes. If I had my time again I'd probably get a darker background, but other than that, this is probably my favourite photograph I've styled.
