Milestones
It's my nan's 85th birthday in October and we're very happy that we'll be able to take some holidays to fly to Germany join her in the celebrations. So, more travel posts coming up :)
I designed a simple invitation for her this week - inspired by a broach she made me probably about 2 decades ago (she's into her craft). I used a classic serif typeface in Mrs Eaves (including some ligatures), but kept it modern and clean, with a feminine feel. Today I sourced some cream pinstriped card with matching envelopes; have now finished printing and slicing, and punched the corners round.

Quick Saturday DIY
I couldn't bear to throw out 2 cute little cardboard boxes that were in the goody-bags at Pia's book launch, so today I decided to decorate them using the large letterpress letters I bought in Sydney. I'm still not quite sure what I'll do with the boxes, but I like that it's not a his and hers set. Process below:

Gayndah - The Oranges
Well, these little guys are kumquats, but their skin is orange, so close enough.
Also, some very interesting typography and illustration on these old bits of packaging.

I dub thee
We only have a couple of pot plants on the balcony, but I couldn't resist these adorable little chalkboards from Blake & Taylor to label them anyway. Something that we didn't plant has started growing in one of the pots, so I have dubbed it the Mystery Plant for now, and we are very interested to see what that will turn into.

Typography & Illustration in Retail Design
I've been doing some research on retail design lately for work, and come across some really cool ways to integrate type and graphic illustrations into store design.

Eat
I've been neglecting my blog big-time lately. Work's been super-busy, many late nights, and weekend work, and last weekend we were away in Melbourne, so no time to catch up then. Hopefully I'll have some time THIS weekend to upload some Melbourne and Riverfire images. In the meantime, I found this awesome table on Design*Sponge. I love it! Makes me want to get rid of our glass dining table.

Type in Dresden
One for the designers... Some interesting typography I photographed in Dresden.
I'm leaving for Amsterdam early tomorrow morning, so will be off blogging until I get back Saturday night/Sunday morning. Have a good week, everyone!

Signage in Hong Kong
Just some random photos of funny signs, bad translations, humorous shop names.
Not a great place to shop then??
There are signs on every form of public transport that the carriage of livestock is prohibited. I guess they like to eat fresh.
This product is endorsed by Jacky Chan!
Also a lot of signs that prohibit spitting – funny icon.

First Post
Inspired by my workmate Chantelle over at Little Things I have decided to give this blogging thing a go.
Whilst it feels somewhat narcissistic, she assures me that it's a great way to easily keep references on hand.
With this in mind, I did a bit of a clean-up of old 'hard-copy' references I had torn out of magazines over the years, and managed to throw a lot of stuff out. There are only a couple of things I still liked, so I will start by posting these.
Firstly, a random beauty shot from a random magazine, no idea where this is from or what is was for, but I like it. The chalky hair and make-up are beautiful, but haunting at the same time. Gorgeous, shadowy lighting.
Secondly. In my first semester at uni, in art theory, I really got into art nouveau, and eventually did a couple of projects inspired by art nouveau later in my course. In the research process I found some illustrated capitals in a random art book, so here are some badly photocopied and scanned examples of art nouveau typography.
