On our second day we got breakfast at a cute place called Black Ruby.

Then we set off for a day trip out to Hanging Rock (photos below) and Daylesford (we somehow forgot to take photos here).

Dinner that night was completely random - the places we had planned on going to were all full, so we just walked up and down Chapel Street to find something, and ended up trying a Turkish Restaurant, which turned out to be amazing. Marmara at 68 Chapel Street. Try if it you're in Melbourne!

So, here I am, whingeing that I want to go overseas, when we've just had a mini-holiday down in Melbourne a mere 2 weeks ago...
Some photos from our first day. Melbourne has such a different feel to Brisbane. For one, the graffiti is better:

The reason we flew down (other than to see a dear friend who lives there), was to see Joss Whedon give a talk. To up the nerd factor of our weekend, we also decided to catch the Tim Burton exhibition currently showing at ACMI. Photos obviously weren't allowed inside, but here are shots of the entrance to the exhibition, the Batman car, and a huge sculpture/balloon of one of Burton's characters:

I also bought a couple of things at the gift store. A couple of post cards for a friend of mine who's a huge fan but won't be able to make it down there, and a pack of cards, which very likely will not be used for playing, but be framed. Try to make it down to Melbourne while the exhibition is on - it is excellent!

For more nerdy things you should check out the biggest nerd shop I have ever seen in my life - Minotaur on Elizabeth Street. Anything you could possibly want to buy and more!

Time flies

This time last year Ton and I were in London, walking through Trafalgar Square. How quickly time goes! It sucks to be stuck in Brisbane, especially when so many of my friends have recently traveled, and will be traveling over the next couple of months - Egypt, Africa, Middle East, England, Netherlands, China.
Although I was overseas fairly recently, the travel fever just won't leave me alone. I'm hoping that we can take at least a small trip SOMEWHERE O/S in the next 6 months, despite my lack of leave and savings.

Awesome production of Macbeth at Brisbane Festival

We just got home from a great production of Macbeth, showing at (or rather, next to) the Brisbane Powerhouse. They had built a kind of amphitheater our of what felt like MDF board (not very comfortable) with the grungy exterior brick wall of the Powerhouse as a backdrop:

The cast was fantastic! Weirdly the 3 wicked witches somehow became an old lady, an old dude and a young guy who reminded me of Frank Woodley, but that actually worked pretty well (although it took me a little while to figure out what was going on). It also took a while to get the ear used to Shakespeare's English, but once I got into it I thoroughly enjoyed the show. Lighting and sound were used to great effect, as was fake blood.
I hadn't read any Shakespeare since High School, but this has really whet my appetite for more plays. I thoroughly recommend you get your butts there. One tip - take a pillow and a warm jacket; the usually balmy Queensland weather didn't want to play tonight and turned cold and windy.

In the area in front of the Powerhouse there was some kind SciFi-ish milk crate spherical structure that begged to be photographed:

Innovative VM for sneakers

Our client just got back from a big buying trip overseas. He took this picture of a display of sneakers in one of the big department stores. Pretty nifty!

You can leave your Hat on (the hook)

My hats are 'stored' on two mannequins next to our entry door. I also hung a lot of my scarves on those mannequins, but they are getting totally overloaded by now. So I might need some extra hooks next to them to solve this problem. Lovely idea! Image found at Design*Sponge

Eat

I've been neglecting my blog big-time lately. Work's been super-busy, many late nights, and weekend work, and last weekend we were away in Melbourne, so no time to catch up then. Hopefully I'll have some time THIS weekend to upload some Melbourne and Riverfire images. In the meantime, I found this awesome table on Design*Sponge. I love it! Makes me want to get rid of our glass dining table.
