Yoga in the Botanical Gardens

This morning was an early start for us to get to Brisbane Yoga Aid Fundraising Yoga Challenge at the Botanical Gardens in the City. We started at 7am and did 2 hours of sun salutations, which was hard work, but a lot of fun.

 

Silver Jewellery

I've always preferred silver or white gold over yellow gold, and this weekend we discovered an exciting jeweller at the South Bank markets. New Dining Chairs

I am so excited, I have been looking for new dining chairs for ages! I saw these at Mindi's and had to have them, too! They got delivered on Friday, and we had to put the legs on them last night, which was a major pain in the arse, but I am very happy that we have a new set of dining chairs!

Empty Hand - The Movie

One of the funniest 30 Rock moments for me was Lutz doing karate and getting absolutely belted. Sadly I couldn't find this video on youtube, but I think it's in the second or third season.
For a much better representation of karate, I am very excited about this movie. The trailer looks great, and every time I watch it, I want to put on my gi and head down to the dojo for a bit of kumite (sparring). This is fairly close to the type of kumite that we practice, no headgear though. Enjoy!

Eloping

It seems that in my circle of friends and acquaintances, people are gravitating towards small weddings or even eloping to escape all the rigmarole and politics that can plague large weddings, not to mention exorbitant cost.
My own parents eloped 30-odd years ago because they didn't want a big fuss made about it. They also didn't tell anyone that they got married, so their witnesses were the only people who knew for quite a few years.
This couple didn't take it quite this far; they did elope, but got a gorgeous video to share with family and friends after the event.

On Sunday we met a friend at South Bank for lunch. Since we arrived early, we went for a stroll of the markets and I found this adorable pair of cat earrings I just had to buy!

Author encounters at #micallefavid & other shenanigans

So, Shaun Micallef was in town last night to delight us with the release of his, no doubt wonderfully hilarious, novella Preincarnate. A group of us rocked up to the HiFi in West End (since the Avid Reader book shop was way too small to hold this crowd), ready to be entertained, and we were not disappointed. He spent the introduction attempting to hide behind the curtains, only to appear at the front of stage to read passages from John Howard's recently released autobiography Lazarus Rising.
In the end, we did get to hear Shaun read a few pages of his own book, followed by a lively Q&A.
Of course we all lined up to get our books signed, and a fitting group photo – thanks, Shaun, for being a good sport!

Sidenote: I also ran into Benjamin Law on the way to the toilet of all things, whose fabulous book The Family Law I devoured last weekend. I've always loved Benjamin's articles in Frankie, so I was very keen to get my hands on his book, in addition to my friend Andrew's recommendation. Go read the book, it's funny and poignant. I would also like to add, I really love it when I meet people whose work I like, and then they turn out to be as lovely as I'd hoped in real life!
